Major General Windsor "Shane" Buzza

U.S. Army: Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Forces Command

Major General Shane Buzza assumed responsibility as the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Forces Command on 1 Oct. Prior to his arrival to Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), he served as the Wartime Chief of Staff for Eighth Army, Camp Humphreys, Republic of South Korea.

Major General Buzza received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in Field Artillery from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, on 25 May 1988. His prior assignments include Commanding General, 91st Training Division; Deputy Commanding General, 84th Training Command; Chief of Staff, Pacific Division, 75th Training Command; Commander, 2nd Brigade, Pacific Division, 75th TC; multiple staff assignments with 5th Brigade, 75th Division; Commander, 3-356th Logistic Support Battalion, 402d FA Brigade, Division West, First Army; BN S3 and S4 for same LSB; HHD Commander, 3rd Brigade, 91st Division (EX); OPFOR Controller, Battle Projection Group, 1st Brigade, 91st Division (EX).

Major General Buzza’s Regular Army assignments include various positions with 7/15 Field Artillery, 7th Infantry Division (Light) in Fort Ord, CA from 1988 thru 1991, including Battery Executive Officer, Supply/Maintenance Platoon Leader, Battery Fire Direction Officer, and Company Fire Support Officer. He served with B Battery during Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. Following the events of September 11, 2001, he served two stateside tours in support of Operation Noble Eagle, 20 and 24 months respectively. He has served in Japan during Yama Sakura 67 and the Republic of Korea 11 times supporting theater-level training events since August 2013.

Major General Buzza attended US Army Airborne School in July 1986 and then CTLT in Augsberg, Germany where he earned the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge in bronze while partnered with the Federal Republic of Germany’s 565 Panzer Artillerie Battalion. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from West Point, Master of Physical Therapy and Master of Arts in Physical Education degrees from California State University, Fresno, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. His military education includes Panama Jungle Warfare Course, Field Artillery Basic and Advanced Course (Honor Graduate), Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, Advanced Joint Professional Military Education, the U.S. Army War College (Department of Distance Education), Army Strategic Education Program – Basic, and the National Defense University CAPSTONE course.

Major General Buzza’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Parachutist Badge.
